what can a E500 owner expect by way of annual maintenance costs? what is involved? i imagine changing the belt would be expensive what would the depreciation value of the 1992-1994 500e or e500 be over the next 3-4 years? your best estimation.... thanks guys! |

I have watched the classified prices of 500E's for awhile now. (even before buying mine) They seem to be pretty close to a "bottom" level for the early cars, the E500's still having a bit further to slide. Beyond that, it is hard to say. 500E's are certainly not as problematic as the previous factory hot-rods. (6.3 and 6.9 owners know huge up-keep bills are a fact of life) The E55 has created a flood of used 500E's on the market, before then you never saw them used.
Call the dealership or independent where you plan to have your E500/500E serviced. (and other candidates in your area) Service and repair costs can vary greatly between geographic location and individual establishment. Costs should be no worse than other M119 W124's. Service items and itervals are pretty much the same as other W124's. Hope this helps...Lee |

what did you pay for your car if you dont mind me asking? what is the bottom price for 1992 500Es? is early $40,000s a good deal for a 1994 E500 with around 50,000 miles? how bout outside warranty vendors? do you recommend those? take care.... |

After looking around, that price should be in line. The 92's with 100,000 mile range in the low 30's. I think this is a very reasonable price.

What I paid for my car is not exactly in line with open market values. Let's just say I was VERY fortunate and had a ton of favors called in. 92's with approx 100K should be in the low 30's, a 94 with less than 50K should bring 40-45K assuming panels/paint/books/etc are in order.
I would highly recommend a aftermarket warranty vendor if your car is still within warranty. Once you are out of warranty they are not as good a deal. As far as I know you have to buy an aftermarket warranty through a dealer or independent, but the cost of the warranty is usually approx the cost of the first big repair bill. Had my car been within the range when getting a warranty (Warrantech) I would likely have purchased it. These are great cars, the 500E's seem to be "tighter" than almost any other benz after similar miles. Hope this helps...Lee |

thanks guys! your info. helped a lot...
i guess it will be a long time before 1992's will ever get into the low 20,000s price range and i guess it'll be a long time before the 1994 gets into the low 30,000s price range...hmmm..a lot to think about for my purchase... i got a quote for a warranty for a 1994 E500. 3 year/36,000 miles roughly $2,500. is that good? it seems a bit high... |

Whan,
That price isn't out of line, the numbers on the warranty sound a bit strange. I assume you are you extending it past the 4yr/50K OEM warranty by 3yr/36K. (so a 7yr/90K total) What kind of deductable does the $2500 get you? As with insurance, deductable can determine overall price to a great degree. If the $2500 is too steep an entry fee for you there is always setting a deductable for only 4-figure items. Normal deductables seem to run in the $200-$250 range. Hope this helps...Lee |
