Until last night, top speed on my 83 240D was 40mph. Previously advised to check Fuel Delivery Timing. Prior to adjusting, at 24 degrees BTDC, #1 Pump port emitted stream of fuel; after adjustment last night, just 1-3 drops. Pump was moved significantly outwards to driver side fender; injector piping had to be repent.
During Fuel delivery adjustment, found that Linkage was probably the real problem. Noticed throttle swing arm linkage had worn bushings limiting throw to maybe 50%. Upon completion of fuel delivery adjustment, and linkage readjustment, car runs much much better. However, it smokes and shakes at idle now--it didn't do this before. Do I have a vacuum leak. What should I do/or troubleshoot? |

Fuel should quit dripping at 24 deg & you must move pump closer to engine to make this happen.
