W202 trans fluid change....
I have a '99 C43AMG and unfortunately cannot locate a repair manual for it. So can anyone share special tricks/tips on what's involved in replacing tranny and diff fluids?
Thanks in advance! George Kofman '99 C43 AMG CenDiv #85 Spec Miata |

tranny fluid is the .6 benz synthetic.
The rear diff uses limited slip synthetic. Joe

The 722.6 tranny fluid is MB specific. Don't use anything else, or you'll be asking for serious trouble.
When changing the tranny fluid, the fluid temp should be 80C to set the level correctly. (Not the engine coolant temp, but the tranny fluid itself...) My 722.6 used 8 litres of fluid.

On the rear diff, open the fill hole before removing the drain plug. I used Redline Gear oil for my C-230 diff. I used a siphon pump from Griot's garage to fill the diff, and for around fourteen dollars I purchased the specific Hazet tool for removing and tightning the rear diff plugs (fill and drain plugs)
The transmission may not be a DIY job, you need a lift, extreme cleanliness, the Fluid is expensive and can only be the Mercedes Specific fluid. Ideally someone who had done the fluid change before on one of these trans should be the only one to do the work on your car. You need also to purchase a drain fill dip stick, and know the techniue for removing and replacing the drain fill (security) plug. |

George,
I'm not sure how different your tranny is from the one in my wifes 2000 C230K but I'm sure the change procedure is very similiar. I've changed the fluid in her car twice now and it's a piece of cake. Just do a search on tranny fluid changes or under my user name and you should find the posts. Dale |
