tick tick tick tick tick

i have a 300E / 1990. it has developed a tick-tick-tick noise in the foot area onthe passenger side. It very noticable when i put my ear close to the foot vent area. i have removed the glove box and checked the aspirator motor. no problem there. the noise is there after the key is turned to position #1. At this position, the engine is not even running, but all the lights on the dash are lighted up. The noise does go away after a while (10-20min). but it is so annoying. What componets are in that area and can cause a noise like that? any help is appreciated.

I've had the same problem. I vaguely remember someone mentioning low voltage as the problem, but forget the rest. I'm sure someone will post the info again.

i found out!

Hi All,
I found that the tick noise is coming from the small box with SRS label on it. this box is located below the radio and behind the ash tray. Does anyone knows why the box would make noise like that? is box replace able by a DIY. Thanks

The "box" is the SRS control unit. You can bolt a new one in yourself, but you'll need to have it programmed at a dealer. There are several safety precautions you should be aware of when working with the SRS so make sure you get the proper information.
