16 V timing chain help

Hello -

I dropped the chain inside the engine!!! oops. Are there any tried & proven ways of retrieving it other than magnet & patience? Can I get to it if I remove the oil pan & lower cover? Can I remove the lower cover with the engine in the car?

I figure since I already messed up I will just replace all the guide rails. Can I do this with the engine in the car? Please help!!!

The piece over the intake sprocket is still in place so I haven't lost the timing.

Bent metal coat hanger?

You know the cheap type you get from dry cleaners...

You can remove the oil pan & front cover in the car but it isn't easy. Takes at least 10 hrs in the shop.
The lower guide rail should always be replaced, so you shouldn't worry about dropping the chain. Also the distributor drive gear may be worn as well.

Thanks guys

Thanks for the response guys.I used a coat hanger & magnet -took about 3 mins. However, I still want to replace the guide rails. Is it pretty much the same to remove the front cover as an 8 valver?Any additional steps I need to know about?

Also what are the torque values for the new tensioner body & end cap?
