Is it safe?
Hi,
Is it safe to switch out the 2 dash lights on a 124 300e with Philips ultra brilliant 12v 5w bulbs??? The ones I pulled out of the car are 3 watts. Will the 5w bulbs mess up any wires, and or melt down the little holders they sit in? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Tony |

Stick with 3W bulbs. I don't have any info on dash bulbs per se, but there are many reports of melting sockets when W124 owners accidentally put 5W bulbs in the lights inside the vent louver wheels.

Ever notice how some movies can ruin a catch phrase forever? I swear, I thought the title was a reference to Marathon Man. . .

Hehe, I totally wasn't thinking of Marathon Man
I have read people having problems with the 5w bulbs, and other having no problems. I went ahead and installed them. SWEEETT!!! right away, I noticed a nice improvement. It's not "blue" but it's much easier on the eyes, and clearer to see. I am really happy with how my instrument cluster turned out. I will keep them in there for a while and examine them in a couple days after night driving to see how the plastic holders (that the bulbs sit in) are doing. Hopefully, all will be well. I will take pix as soon as I get my digi cam back. Thanks for the advice. -Tony |
