Unhappy c180 wiper problem

You'r all familiar with the MB mono wiper, - if I dont use the car for a few days, the wiper starts to stick near the top of its stroke, and moves very slowly indeed. After a few miles it behaves. I'm need to use the car soon, and dont want it to get worse or fail.

What can I lubricate / renew to stop this problem?

Talking sticking wiper blade

I could be wrong, but suggest that you look into the condition of your car's battery. Is it charging up properly and holding the power supply long enough for you to restart the engine or use other electrical stuff after a week of rest in the garage? Have the battery checked and changed if this is the culprit. Happenned to me about 4 months ago when my sunroof moved very sluggishly while opening and closing, wouldn't tilt and the cd player and cassette player sounded a bit slow. Changed to a new Benz type battery with the gas escape outlet tube and everything's alright now. Even the single blade wiper is going like a fan when I select the high speed level. If I'm wrong, sorry. Just came across your thread and had to say something, adios.

Thumbs down Thanks but no banana

Thanks for the try Hocky, but that was not the solution. However, on closer inspection of this forum I have found a solution at:
Monowiper problem

I will be going at it grease and mirror later today or tomorrow.

fixed it

Once I found that there were two recesses at 5 and 7 o'clock on the unit it took 30 seconds to remove the cover and 2-3 minutes to clean and regrease the unit. The recesses are next to the plastic cover to enable the cover to be prised off (not the two holes that are just in from the recesses these do nothing to help removing the cover).

All is now working except that my wiper rests one third over the windscreen, I think that the motor is out of sync? Any ideas.

I had some monowiper problems as well. Since I had the assembly taken apart, cleaned and lubed it's been behaving perfectly. The only down side is that it's a fairly expensive fix since I was charged 3 hrs shop labor. On the other hand, leaving a wiper assembly the way it is when it's not functioning properly could be much more expensive.

Good luck.

WAG, but this sounds like a relay problem since the wiper is swiping OK. Try to swap one to test before buying.

reply to chuck

How would I check the relay, what is a relay? Also how would I get to the motor?

Any answers are gratefully received
