I will soon be replacing all the break pads on my '99 ML 320.(about 40,000 miles)
I have done this on several cars in the past but never on a MB. Is there any thing special I need to know. The break replacement featured in the "do it yourself" part of this site is helpful but I do not know how relevent it is for the M class. Are there any parts to replace other than the pads? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Joe McMullen |

MLs use the single piston sliding design, very simular to "E" class cars. Nothing but the price of the pads is bad. The do-it-yo section will refresh your memory on procedure.

a word to the wise, yes the ml front and rear brake pads are very similar to the "E" class but pay attention to which brake pad is which. The ML has left and right side pads!! Plus hardware that goes on the carrier (guides). although you can fit the pads on the opposite side, you will have a problem with the LF because of the wear sensor. Note the notches in the pads and replace them like you took them off.
Don't forget the guide, I had a new ML this past week that the (Alabama) factory left off one rear guide and as the pad wobbled around for 2000K miles the pad began to bind and overheated and warped the brake disc...... ------------------ |
