wondering if can be fixed temporarily

i need to know if a throttle actuator can be repaired without being totally taken off and replaced by a new one need help please because a new one is so expensive or if i was to purchase a used one would that work or am i headed for trouble with it in case that fails this is for a 93 400sel

the asr lite is on and also off whenever it feels like coming on it does and then i turn the car off and the light goes off for a while like the whole day or so and when its cold in the morning it comes on at first start so i let the car idle with the light on and then once its warmed up i turn it off and restart it and the lite is gone again some times it will come on while driving on a bumpy road same thing i put the car in neutral turn it off and restart it lite gone i had the car diagnosed and they told me the vehicle needs a throttle actuator which i was told controls the asr,cruise, and throttle they told me that would cost about $1150 total

without testing the unit, I would bet some money the problem is the wires inside the wiring harness have no insullation left on them just a bunch of dust.

It's a pain in the aX##, but the wires can be replaced one at a time to rebuild the wiring harness. Alternative is buying a new one. Old used ones are also likely full of crumbling wiring insullation (biodegradable plastic!)

well this mechanic told me that everything but the mass air flow sensor would be replaced because when you call for the part at a dealer or otherwise it comes with a gasket which im assuming is for the intake

I posted a reply a few weeks ago about this. I think it was "ASR 400E"? MB dealers have some old bulletins about this problem. The actuator could be the problem, but there's also an updated E-Gas module. The "bumpy road" situation could also indicate a faulty CTP switch. It's a small and inexpensive switch located on the gas pedal. Make sure you get a thorough diagnosis before you spend big bucks on somebody's guess!

you know what that does make a lot of sense because sometimes when i try to give the throttle full throttle it sticks a little allmost at the end of the pedal but would that switch that you are talking about cause the asr lite to come on

Yes, that switch will make the light come on as well cause a "limp home" condition. It will also store a fault code (224) in the E-GAS control module. Find the post titled "ASR 400E" and read my reply. It was only a few weeks ago. Sorry I can't tell you how to go directly to it, I'm not the most PC savvy person! Anyway, check it out. There's some good info there.
