C280 Keyless entry from "the keyless entry guy"

OK, so I'm the big mouth that put together the "W124 Keyless Entry for less than $100" thread a couple of years ago.

Now we have a "new" C280 ('94), and I'm trying to put the same keyless entry into it. I've searched the archives and there are a few posts on this subject, but no good answers. Anyone know which wire I need to splice into? It appears as though this unit is different than the W124 unit, and doesn't use the same pulses. Can I wire directlly from the unit rather than thru relays? Thanks for any help.

keyless entry

I have a '94 C280 that I had an aftermarket keyless entry installed in it by St. Joseph Electronics in St Joseph, MO. Phone number is 816-364-1184. If you get frustrated and decide to call, ask for Chris.

Got it! Easier than the W124!

Order the parts from Crutchfield, but order a DSL instead of a DSLV (I rewired the DSLV). Follow their instructions.

Here are some hints:

To find the correct wires to tap into, use JUST a lead from your mutimeter. Ground one end of it, and with the other probe the wires coming out of the pump (the red one is hot, so don't check it...). Mine were green/white and blue. One when briefly grounded will lock, the other will unlock when briefly grounded. They are the 2 wires you need! Unlike the W124 installation, you don't cut these, just tap into them (scotch connectors work great for this). Alarm works too!

Hi Bill,

Can you please give me more information on how exactly you connected the DLS to the vaccum pump plug?

I've connected:

DLS' blue wire to vacuum pump plug's blue wire and
DLS' green write to the vacuum pump plug's white/green

I can hear both lock and unlock relays on the DLS click, but it did not lock/unlock the doors.

Thanks very much for your help.

Since your relays are working with the remote, your problem is getting the right wires.

You need either a test lead or a some kind of wire that has a needle-type of probe on one end. Ground the other end somewhere in the trunk. Using the probe, press it into the wires one at a time. You are looking for one wire that locks the car when you ground it with the probe, and one that unlocks. Those are then the 2 wires you hook into the relays.
