Question Cruise Control Stalk 98 E300TD

Anyone know how to install a new Cruise control stalk on a 98 E300TD. My 2 year old has broken it. I figure they are all the same through the entire 210 series.

Any help appreciated

Chief

Cruise Control Stalk

Hello, Whatever happended with this.. ? did you ever get it fixed. I just broke mine and was wondering is this something I could do myself being that the airbag is in the there.. I probably figure that i have to take the airbag out to get to the stalk

Well...I changed mine on my 92' W124....I had to take off the airbag and steering wheel to get to the stalk unit...not hard but takes a bit of time. Don't know if your newer car is much different than my 11 year old...can't imagine it is..in terms of the way the steering wheel is installed.

Cruise Control

Here is the deal. I am yet to do this but this is what came back to me from the post.
I am not sure how to deactivate the airbag either.
You will need a long T25 torx bit to remove the airbag, then a 10mm 'allan key' socket to remove the steering wheel.
Remove the steering angle sensor with a small phillips head screwdriver but first ensure that the steering is straight.
Then remove the combi switch and cruise control switch by removing the screws and then sliding forward the stalks.
Drop the under dash panel to access the wiring, disconnect and feed the wiring on the new switch through.
Should take half an hour, you may need a hand to get the steering wheel bolt undone, remember to do it up tight. Probably an idea to dissasemble first to ascertain whether it is actually broken rather than simply dislodged before buying the parts.

Cheers

Chief, you describe it well...one may need a pipe or similar over the allen wrench for leverage, mine was a bear to break lose.

Cruise control stalk unit itself was relatively cheap...maybe $40...for a W124 car.
