87 190E 2.3 idle problem

about a mth. ago we had a prob. with climate control etc. was advised to rep.lace several items. but car was hard to start . so voltage overload was changed too. while we had all the components out so we could gain access to the volt. over. ..when we were putting all back together we started to experience a very rough idle.we took everything back out and re instaled it got better but never seems to smooth out . We went through the complete vacume system around the intake .we changed all the large rubber hoses and found the idle speed air pump(valve) was frozen so we replaced it . the idle is still eradic. IThe engine will start and run as long as I hold the accelerator at about 1000 and above when it is released it dies. or if the trans is put into drive it shutters and stalls out. Help!
