Might factory alarm mean factory keyless entry?

Before I get carried away doing something needlessly...(again)

My new-to-me 1993 190e has a alarm sticker on the rear windows for radio and ?? Might this mean a factory keyless entry was provided but lost by subsequent owners?

If all I need to do is check the VIN with the dealer to purchase a KE FOB, I will cancel plans to purchase an aftermarket keyless entry. OTOH if the silly alarm was only intended to discourage radio theft, I'll go ahead with the DIY KE project.

Thanks for any insight and guidance.

KE info, do you have the indicator lights?

paul,

i think the sticker for my 95 C-280 202 refers to both a car alarm and the stereo being coded. my car did not come with a KE system. this is the same as my prior 86 300e.

i think that the factory KE systems typically could be recognized by the inclusion of indicator "lights" on the front door handles and trunk.

there are several posts on KE systems on the boards. the one that might be particularly helpful can be found by searching using "the keyless entry guy". i think they were in the stereo forum.

i also want to add KE to my 202, but am inclined to probably go to an auto stereo shop and get a new alarm that includes the KE.

if you find that a DIY KE solution is really easy, i would appreciate any details you could share.

KE

I have the advantage that the keyless guy has provided 14 pages of great instructions with photographs for the 190e in the diy section. However, I wish to avoid ignoring a simpler solution.

KE info in DIY? i do not see it

paul, i do not find any info on KE in the 13 items i see in the DIY section of the site, although i had persued much of the great info there earlier.

i do realize that the 190 KE info would not directly apply to my 202, but i had hoped that i could gain a perspective as to materials, methods and skills needed to assemble a DIY kit for my auto.

any info you may have would be GREATLY appreciated.

BTW, does your 190 have the indicating lights at doors or trunk?

thanks, - benton in atlanta

MB never installed keyless entry on the W201 chassis(190). The W202 chassis(USA) didn't get KE until 1996.

Benton, I did a keyless entry on my '94 C280 last weekend. It was a snap. Less than $100. I'm also the guy who wrote up the installation for W124. C280's even easier. Do a search on keyless entry c280.

No 190E had factory keyless entry.

That said, it is pretty simple to rig something up, as has been covered in many threads here.

Also, your car might not have the factory "alarm" system, but simply the factory anti-theft radio that requires a code to be entered after power is lost to the head unit.
