I'm running a '97 E300 Turbodiesel. The dashboard information system tells me it's overdue a service. I wish to service it myself, but do not know how to reset the service interval indicator. I hear that pressing certain sequences of buttons will reset it. Is this true? Does anyone know how to do it?

Your owners manual has instuctions on how to reset the FSS interval.

The manual does say how to reset the lights, BUT, the doors must also be closed when performing the reset. We are not quite sure why, but it does make a difference.
Happy servicing, Turbo herb |

I've seen the same thing. When resetting the FSS light, you must have the doors closed for it to take.

Since the 96-97 diesels were not turbos, you have a 1998 E300DT. 1998 & later cars have FSS & are the ones with service reset.
If you go past the mileage(not good) then it might take upto 10 times to reset. When you reset the service light the info isn't recorded into the computer, but if the dealer uses the factory tool then the reset is recorded into the computer. If you have any warrenty engine repairs this might be a factor. |
