1996 C-280 EGR Valve
Dear Friends:
I have a 1996 C-280 with intermittant drivability problems. I suspect that the EGR valve is sticking. Where is this valve located, how do I get to it, and how hard is it to replace. Thank you, Chuck |

If the EGR system malfunctions you will get a "check engine" lamp the next time the engine is started.
What type of running problem is the engine having??

EGR PROBLEM??
Dear MB Doc:
The check engine light is on. The car performs fine at speed, but will not idle well. This is intermittant, but seems to be more frequent when I have been pushing it harder. I can correct the problem by shutting the engine off for even just a second. Then it idles fine. Where is the EGR valve located? How do I get to it? Your assistance is much appreciated, Chuck |

Chassis 202.028 has a TSB up-grade for the EGR valve due to sticking.
They also have a flow blockage problem that you can find in the Archieves. [ DIY article by S.B ] The blockage is more apt to bring up the CE lamp as it is a constant failure , whereas the sticking egr will sometimes not CE indicate cuz of it's intermittent condition. [ thus not having successive faults needed for ECU recognition] |
