Red face engine light

my engine light has just come on at 65000 miles. i have a small leak at the diffrential and the oil is ok i have just had it changed. could the small leak be the reason since the oil has less than 100 miles on the oil change or could this be something serious?

not sure what to tell you, but on my previous car a mitsubishi montero, the engine light would turn turn on at certain milaeges, at numbers like 50000, 75000, and so on.. It's a possiblity that it was turned on by the milaege for inspection, I doubt that its oil related though.

Is it the check engine light or some other light (i.e., oil, temp) that came on?

I think it's just hapenstance that the check engine light came on after an oil change. And it wouldn't have anything to do with the differential.

You'll have to have the error codes read from the computer. Even if the light goes out the computer stores codes for a good while for the mechanic to read them. The code(s) will help point the mechanic to where the problem may be.

How is the engine running otherwise? Which car do you have?

If it's the "Check Engine" light, then it only comes on for emission-related issues...most likely, the O2 sensor. But with your mileage, Mercedes is supposed to fix that one free-of charge.

A lot of folks get raised eyebrows about the "engine" light thinking it is the "Check Engine" light. I believe you may be referring to the indicator with the icon of an engine block. It glows yellow.

That refers to the coolant level, and is indicating that it is low. If your coolant level looks fine, then it may be that the coolant level sensor is corroded.

You can remove the plug from the tank without deinstalling the tank, and carefully clean the plug, especially the female end where connection problems reside.
