300 SD Oil Hog

I have an 82 300SD which consumes 3-4 quarts of oil a week (245,000 miles). I have owned the car about 2 years and it has always used about 2 quarts per month until shortly after I had a used injector pump installed by a garage. The car now smokes (black) a lot more than it used to. The mechanic says the engine is shot and wants to due a $4000 rebuild.
The car starts easily and has just slightly less power than it use. Could the injector be causing the large amount of oil consumption?
