I am in the process of reparing the power window mechanism for the left rear door of my 1982 300SD. I was able to repair the window mechanism. However, now I am having trouble replacing the door panel. It was very difficult removing the door panel, especially over the door handle trim plate. I am realizing that it is even more difficult to reinstall the door panel. Specifically getting the door panel to snap over the door handle trim plate. Since the trim plate is bigger than the opening on the door panel it is very difficult to get it through the panel. How do I get the door panel back on? Although it doesn't appear to do so, does the door handle plate snap off somehow? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I had trouble getting mine back on my '83 SD's driver side door. I had trouble getting to the Philips screw that secures the front of the armrest to the door.

As to that trim plate, are you talking about the black thin plastic piece? If so, a small flat blade screwdriver will pry it *out*; then I think you can remove it after this is off. Not sure if this is what you want to do... my own personal experience would advise caution and if you're struggling too much with the thing, take it to a tech who's done many of them. My personal frustration involved breaking a seat switch trying to force the door panel on, this after successfully de-soldering the old one, adding the upgrade kit for the seat switch (just soldering, but space is a bit tight). It worked perfectly, until I broke it forcing the door panel back on

W126 door panel, I remove the little black trim behind the release lever with a small pocket screwdriver, then remove the phillips screw and the chrome trim plate. Then remove the two screws holding the seat switch in and remove the seat switch before taking the door panel off. If you tip out the chrome trim then you can get to the large phillips screw is up under the top of armrest grip. Be careful installing this screw because it is easy to cross thread it and wreck the speed nut! Then you have to take the panel back off.....
