My 380sl is developing a crack in the middle of the dash like numerous other old sl's I've seen. The mercedes dealer wants about $2073 for a new dash. I've seen a dash cover for sale in a catalog that is supposed to cover this and look like original equipment. Has anyone done this and how does it look? Or any other solutions?
Thanks, Jason

They actually look OK, but I have never seen one that did not squeak or rattle.

I've heard of repairing the crack using some type of filler material, similar to superglue, or those plastic repair kits shown on late night infomercials. They probably give results directly proportional to the care in prep and application.

I have used the dask repair kit on my 84 380SL with limited results even with the utmost care in preparation. The repair looks great until the weather changes from hot to cold and then the crack re-appears. In my opinion that repair kit is a short term solution but if you don't mind re-doing the work a couple times a year, it's much better than the crack.

Or if you do not want to spent couple grants on the dash, you can always special order a dash cover. They can even match your interior colour. Here is a good place to try:
Dash Design in Tempe, AZ. Phone number is 1-800-843-3274 or visit their web site
