Weird button

After a few hours of boarding last week, I decided it was time to leave the slopes. I got into the car and heard a noise that I have never heard before, it came fromt he back center console in the compartment area. There seems to be a little button there that I am not aware of. I suppose the button was depressed and that made the noise, I pressed it again (held it in for about 10 seconds) then the noise finally stopped. Does anyone have this button?

Thank you!

Dave, that would be the famous MB "noise button." But seriously, it would help to know what model and year car you have.

MTI I thought that noise option button was discontinued on models after 1991?
