hard to start 300E after transmission replaced

"Great", "amazing", "well conceived & executed" are just some of the words that come to mind about this website and forum. Thanks for your help in advance!

After the transmission was replaced on our 1987 300E, we cannot start the car in PARK unless we move the shifter back & forth first, or put the shifter in NEUTRAL. Is there a switch or contact near the shifter that needs to be replaced/adjusted?
