Blowing oil
I have a 1984 300 TD that has 230,000 miles on it. Just recently i have noticed oil on the grill and on the front of the hood. It doesn't occur all the time, just sporadically. I assume that it is coming off the engine, on to the grill and migrating up onto the hood. It only happens on the driver side of the car. There is also an unusual amount of oil on the undercarriage. Car still runs fine, just don't know where exactly the oil could be coming from and what it could mean.

On the grille? Are you sure it's motor oil?

My guess: Oil cooler.
You said not all the time. I believe the Oil cooler is thermostatically controlled .... ..... or the rear suspension self leveling pump? Are you loosing engine oil? BTW, have you checked your power steering fluid level recently? Haasman

I think haasman is right on target here. To find the leak, you need to go to the coin operated car wash and thoroughly wash everything down, then observe closely on a daily basis until you find the leak. You will probably need to look from underneath.
Good luck, |
