Sorry, but I don't have a recent pic at the moment. I don't have them taken very often, plus I am usually the one taking the pictures. Last picture was about a year ago and 30 lbs. heavier.

I wouldn't dare post a "former" me since I like the "different" me better. Hopefully I will have one in a few days.

Enough about me...Now about the car.... Have an appointment next week to have the ignition and steering lock checked. I have a few other things I will ask the mechanic to check, so I will do a new post for comparison to what he tells me.

See you in the next thread.

Back to your issue. You can replace the tumbler very easily yourself. I posted the complete directions (to a W124 anyway) a little while ago. It's a wonderful eureka moment.

Look at post 'ready to cut ignition tumbler'

Not getting away from the issue, just having a good time and trying to break away from what I was facing with my car.

I am not looking forward to all the work that needs to be done. I am not car savvy, so getting it done is a big deal for me. Both money wise and talent wise.

I don't have the tools to fix my car and have no clue what to buy.

I am not afraid to try and do things on my own, but if I mess this up, then I will be in a mess.

I will check the link.

Thanks.

Exclamation Well, well, well.....

:p
Not that I'm gonna pick on you guys at all.. cos honestly you all seem very conscientious when it comes to helping anyone - male or female. But, I am curious, how do you distinguish whether or not a topic is posted by a female or not unless it is stated so???!!
I only ask cos I posted a query a few weeks ago about valve timing on a 220SE and got hardly a response at all.
Had I have known....mighta posted a pic of the fabulous Finnie and her lovely lady owner!!!
Cheers guys (truly I am NOT having a go )

The next time I need help finding the hood release for my 190E, I'm going to log on as "Mary Ann" and not "Gilligan"!

Silly Billies

No, I can understand why you knew Ginger was female - but throughout the forum, how would you know???
How many poor females in distress did you fail to help because there was no apparent indication that they were the fairer sex??!!
Think about it - you could have left them stranded, just because you didn't know!!
Sorry guys, guess I'm taking the mickey...
Anyone had the fortune/misfortune (depending on yr gender) of seeing the pretty girls thread?
I think it's gotten ridiculous. Poor ol me was looking for tech info, just browsing through at work and up pops this thread that is so
dangerously close to being pornographic that I had to get outt a there quick before people thought I was surfing porn sites and of homosexual inclination.
Shocking,I tell you!!

What is the problem?

Ok.. I've had enough!!!!!

"Ginger" is my nickname. I was given that nickname by someone in a circle of friends who never calls anyone by their real name. Just a thing he has.

"97" is the year I got the nickname and the year I met my "Ex".

I use the combination in many memberships I have.

My real name is "Gina". I am truly of the "female" gender.

The reason for my post here was to find help. The request for a picture and my comment about the picture not being one of me "sprawled across the hood" was a joke. Pure and simple! What is pornographic and homosexual about that?

I am on a car sight. The comment was based on my experience and dislike of seeing pictures in car mags of girls on the hoods of vehicles in swimsuits. That is all! My opinion only, guys here may like pictures like that, but it's there choice.

I set my profile for "single with minimum mechanical ability" so they would understand that I needed a quick answer. The mention of the 'Ex' was to better explain my reason for asking strange people (male or female) for help. I did try to get the one person who knows the car better than anyone else to help me. I was informing those who responded to my post that I had already tried to get other help and failed.

I resent your assumption that I am in any way trying to be pornographic. Have you even wondered why I have yet to post the "infamously requested" picture? Obviously because it "WAS" a joke!

And by the way, the correct spelling for your chosen adjective for me is, "wily"! Not "wiley". Which I am not! Let me see if I can find a good adjective for you to describe me, how about "sincere"? Oh, let's try "genuine"? One more please....
"personality"!!!!!!!

Forgive me please for causing you to have to tuck tail and run out of the thread. Let me guess, after that exposure you're going to need therapy, right?

Thank you everyone, well almost everyone, for all the help, really!!! I meant no harm.

Hi Heck,

Everyone here, in my experience, gets a fair audience and equal attention. Gender is a non-issue. People here simply enjoy sharing their knowledge and experience, no matter if your screen name is "Ginger" or "Pimply-Faced Cooties Geek."

Nobody here is ever "stranded" -- which is what helps make Mercedesshop one of the most valuable resources on the 'net.

Now I'll head off to check out the pretty girls thread...

Cool All my worries gone

Ah now that's more the spirit!!!
No, I really was just mucking around - all the info on here is great. I also have a Nissan and tried to obtain information on their forum and I'm still awaiting a response (even though I've solved my own problem) and there nothing helpful in the site.
This site is fantastic and I send a big thankyou to all you guys.
Meanwhile, I'm still hotwiring my Finnie cos I'm waiting in a barrel for it - only mine got stuck in the "1" position so I guess I'm lucky.
Cheers!!

Ginger, are you sure you gave that wheel a hard yank either way as you try to turn that ign. switch. Have seen this before and a hard yank as you try turning the switch worked. Oh, and it was another lady with the same problem but an 86 E300.

Try this!!!

I have a 1993 400SEL and the same thing happened to me. Ironically, I was 85 miles from home. This is what I did:

1. Get two (2) blocks. (wood or brick)
2. Jacked the car high enough; one (1) wheel at a time, to place blocks under the car to support the weight of the car. Repeat on the other side.
3. With the car in the air, the pressure will be off of the front end and you should be able to turn your key.

I've use this technique twice!!

HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU!!!

americor - I don't know what is in the water where you live but I would suggest replacing the tumbler and seeing if the steering lock mechanism needs to be replaced or not.
