Does anybody know...
the part number, or numbers, for the bushings at the upper control arm where the torsion bar passes through on a 126?
Am in the planning stages for replacing the upper arms, lower ball joints and guide rod mounts. The only part I can't seem to find in FastLane is the torsion bar bushing where it passes throught (bolts to) the upper control arm. Thanks.

Try 116 333 40 14 and see if that's what you want. There's a retainer, washer and hex head screw that go with it; separate parts' #'s.

Thanks jbaj007. Don't know how I missed them on the first couple of forrays into the catalogue. Soon as you posted the number I looked again, sure enough there they were - control arm bushings, upper outer.

I'll post my how-to when I do the job.
I was checking things out yesterday and I think I might not have to do the lower control arm bushings as they seem tight. Upper and lower ball joints need to be replaced as do the torsion bar bushings (source of my low speed groan) plus the guide rod mounts. As long as I don't have to do the lower bushings it looks like I can do the job without removing the springs (as outlined in the manual).

Torsion bar bushings
Mike -
Is the 'torsion bar' the same as the 'front stabilizer bar' described in the 126 Chassis manual at 32-300? Is the 'torsion bar' also decribed as the 'sway bar' in common parlance? I'm asking as I get the low speed groan on bumps (suggesting, as you say, that torsion bar bushings need replacement). These appear to be split and an easy installation - I'm looking at 32-300-26. Do you have to realign the front end after doing this? |

All the terms are interchangeable to the best of my knowledge. 32-300 is the correct job, sections 21-25 cover the bushings at the control arm. Section 26 is the sway bar mount bushing. Hopefully I don't have to replace that. While checking things out the other day, I found I could grab the torsion bar at the control arm and while gently rocking the car I could "feel" the groan. Usually I only hear it when navigating speed bumps at slow speed, or once and a while after exiting the interstate and driving slow on surface streets. Typically any front end work requires an alignment afterward, but not too sure whether or not installing new bushing at these points would.

If it is any help, I have replaced these bushings on 126 and 123 cars. The improvement is very noticeable ....
One side is definitely easier than the other. Haasman
