420SEL Bowden Cable - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Have an 86 420SEL. Im trying to find the Bowden Cable. Ive read alot of the posts and they say it comes from the tranny up behind the air filter and near the valve cover. Ive looked a ton and still dont see it. I need to adjust the tranny cause of flaring from Gear 1 to 2. Which side is it on. I see the linkages and an orange rubber boot on one cable but the diameter doesnt seem right as one post says it adjusts with a 14mm wrench. Any help would be great!

There is not one on this model, This transmission uses the vacuum modulator for adjusting.

I think you are refering to the control pressure cable MB# 126-300-2930

The bowden cable is easy to find and adjust. With the air cleaner removed look on top of the intake manifold at the rear of the engine. It has a red rubber bellows( two or three inches long )covering the cable to protect it. This cable can be adjusted to change the shift points. The modulator( on the driver's side of the trans )is used to adjust shift quality/firmness.

Sorry I was a little confused, there is a cable the 'control pressure cable', I assume that is what is meant by the Bowden cable. If that is the case iluvmils is spot on as to the location. sorry for the mistake. I would adjust the vacuum modulator before the cable to adjust a flare though.
