Monday on the way in to work, I started to receive some kick-back in the brake pedal when nearly at a stop. Later that afternoon, the ABS light came on once underway. It illuminates at start-up, then immediately goes out. After I've drive a short distance it reappears.

Seeing 13.95 volts with VOM on 20 scale first thing in the am - charging is ok. I replaced the volt. reg. about 6 months ago with a new OEM Bosch unit. Read that the OVP is suspect, but I wonder. Fuse is ok. I believe the OVP also powers CIS-E. If the OVP were sick, would the car also exhibit running problems?

I suspected I'd end up taking it to a shop with an ABS tester, but decided to pull/clean both front speed sensors for the heck of it. The left was really dirty - cleaned thoroughly with brake parts cleaner. The right wasn't as dirty - also cleaned, reinstalled, ensuring to fully seat, then went for a test drive. Same deal - I get the kick-back in the brake pedal at the first stop, followed by the reappearance of the ABS light. If I stop the car and restart, the light appears only at start-up for a sec. as always, then goes out 'til I've driven a short distance.

I'm hearing a noticable sound that seems to be coming from just under the dash or the hood - maybe from the ABS controller? It sounds like muffled static - a very intermittent, yet consistent sound that starts at about 25 mph. If I barely tap the brake pedal, the sound diminishes quite a bit and more or less disappears if I apply slightly harder brake pressure.

This racket came about when the ABS light first surfaced yesterday. Rotors and pads look good - brake fluid reservoir full.

This buggy is going to the local pro soon for diagnosis; nonetheless, I'm curious about the sound just described?

Would appreciate the lists wisdom on what I'm hearing?

Static-like noise turned out to be a loose front wheel bearing. Coincidental the ABS and this popped up at the same time I suppose.

I saw some posts on another MB site where an ABS situation supposedly created alot of radio static.

We gotta' watch out for those kinda' problems where we have coincidental problems at the same time.

I just bought a 350SDL and after driving it for a couple weeks I noticed that the inside dome light wasnt working. At that time I noticed that the map light didnt work as well. I was asking everyone why would both of them blow out at the same time and was bummed out thinking about spending $80 on a new interior light unit. This also had the interior temp sensor/fan and sunroof switch with it, thats why it was $80.

Well, anyways after awhile I realized that I NEVER did check to see if the map light worked in the first place. Sure enough, after buying both replacement bulbs, I realized that they were just burnt out and I assumed they went out together from some power surge or something.

Like they say, don't overlook the obvious.

I didnt mean to imply that you were panicking. I was just making an observation that it seems like most of the time, we tend to think that our problems are worse than they turn out to be. We start looking too deep into things before we check out the obvious. That's what's so great about this website. It's guys like yourself that put things into perspective for us pessimists.

Not sure how my effort or the subsequent resolution constitute "panic", but I suppose we all have our own perception of issues.

I have the same problems with the ABS and i've noticed that one of my front caliper pistons is siezed, since releasing the piston I have relieved the kick back but not the ABS light

In my case, the drivers side wheel bearing had loosened a hair. This caused the hub to pull away from the end of the sensor which is magnetized. I would imagine that put the ABS system into a dizzy state as the sensor readings were now inaccurate.

The tech I hired adjusted the wheel bearing and reset the computer to remove the ABS light. No sensors were replaced in my case.
