Need help removing 126 window motor
84SD with bad drivers window motor. The CD is as helpful as always by telling you to lower the window as the first step. I guess Mercedes motors are only supposed to fail when lowering the window I have removed the 3 nuts and 2 bolts shown in the CD but the regulator/motor assembly is not moving. Whats the trick if you cant lower the window?

Bob,
I just recently replaced the driver's door motor on my '85 300SD so maybe I can be of some help. With mine, I followed the CD instructions but got stuck when I went to disconnect one of the bolts that it said should be removeable.....it wasn't. The bolt, or lack thereof, was not removeable. I ended up having to LEAVE the whole regulator assy. inside the door and unbolt the motor blindly (using my fingers to feel the bolt heads) using a wrench....the bolt heads are on the side NOT facing you.....hence why you'd normally take the whole regulator/motor assy. out. When you say it's not moving, do you mean it's not moving at all or that it's still connected to the door somehow and not coming out? Another thing that happened with me....when I went to install the new motor, it had spade lugs where the power wires were suppose to connect...this is fine except the orginal motor had power wires hermetically connected to the motor assembly. So, I had to cut the wires from the original motor and put spade connectors on the ends to connect to the new motor....not a big deal but be prepared. I tried to take out just the motor by taking out the bolts on the backside, but I can only get 2 bolts, it feels like there is a third but the regulator is blocking access to it. The regulator is loose but I think because the window is up the spring is placing a lot of pressure on the regulator, which is why they say to do it with the window down. Got to be a trick but I dont want to put a lot of force on the the regulator assembly and crack it.

Bob, you're correct. There' s a 3rd bolt on the motor.
If you could get the motor undone, it would allow the regulator to move freely....but that's all a catch-22, I know. Does the CD manual not have anything to say about what to do in the case that the window has failed in the up position? Chris '85 300SD |

Chris, thanks I was pretty sure there was a 3rd bolt. No the CD is not a lot of help, like I said its only supposed to break when the window is down. God I wish Bentley had a 126 manual.

Bob,
My next recommendation would be posting your question in the Diesel forums. Might have some better luck there. fyi.....I can't find any info regarding HOW to get the window to the down position either....in fact, I've found others basically asking the same question as you Chris '85 300SD |
