We got a partial shipment today of our 124 & 126 CD order.

Better get 'em while they're hot!

I'd like to order the 124 CD. How much is it, and how do I go about ordering one?

Assuming you accessed out site via http://www.peachparts.com then
go to PartsShop by clicking on "PartsShop" in the frame on the left side of the page. This will take you to the PartsShop Lobby. You will see the currently available MB service CD's listed in the upper right corner of the page. Click on W124, add one to your basket and checkout. It's $99+ shipping. While your in the PartsShop Lobby, be sure to check out FastLane. You can look up your car by Model and Year. It's simple to buy normal maintenance items this way.

The service CD's contain all manuals for engine, chassis and electrical for all US models. Some info is applicable to non-US models but since these CD's are produced by MBUSA they control the content. These CD's don't work very well on a Mac from what I understand. These are exactly the same CD's offered by the Mercedes dealers and 1-800FORMERC.

As I understand it, the parts info they are a bit more stingy with and is still considered proprietary. (though that isn't always respected...) There are both CD and microfiche sources but I to my knowledge, neither are legal for sale.

Sorry....Lee

Dear members and moderators...

Not to put a damper on the enthusiasm for this and I apologize in advance for this post - but I thought it be fair warning for those who think this is an "interactive" type CD-ROM with images and content that was specifically created for producing these electronic manuals.

I believe the CDs contain "pictures" of the pages from the book manuals, and may not be as versatile as a full production CD-ROM. My understanding is this is a compilation of Adobe Acrobat PDF files of the pages with a linked index (for PC users).
Therefore, Mac users will be able to view the PDF files but without the convenience of the index.
One drawback would be the reference pictures are copies of the halftoned images in the book manuals and the quality may be questionable, especially for some new DIY folks who are heavily dependent on pictures to find their way around the engine compartment...

I was one of the anxious folks waiting for the 126 CD-ROM until I found out how these were produced, which I'm sure saved them a bundle of money on interactive media production costs.

Please correct me on this if MB recently started putting a lot more into producing these things then just flat bed scan the pages and convert to PDF images.

The CD-ROMs' availability is certainly an improvement over the discontinued manuals, but I think folks should understand what it is they are getting even at only $99.

(Although I already have all the books, I'll probably order one anyway...)

That's pretty much true. MB simply converted the service manuals to Adobe Acrobat and created an index for searching purposes. There's no high tech, artificial intellegence, fuzzy logic, automated troubleshooting tool in the CD. Some of the Euro models are not included as well.

The main benefits are:
- the manuals are MUCH more expensive
- the manuals are tough to find
- the CD is easy to store
- you can print anything you need from the CD
- Its easier to search the CD

- Owner's manual
- Climate control manual

Regarding the w124 cd...Ummm....so we won't be able to read about how to defeat the ASR or the temp. problem on the 500Es will we? And the speed limiter...all of us that will be entering the Silverstate classic want to read about how to disable that thing. Is that covered in the CD? :-) :-) :-)
