VIN Stickers
Does MB still mark their cars with VIN stickers on each body panel?
I think this practice begain in 1986/1987 on the then new W124 cars. At least both my '87 and '91 W124's have them (Hood, Front Fenders, Hinge side of all doors, trunk/tailgate, rear quarter inside trunk, rear bumper) the '84 did not. I recently looked at a 1995 E320 wagon and was surprised that I could not find one on the car sans the one on the tailgate where the plate goes. I rejected the car as a possiblity due to this discovery. I just want to confirm wheather or not MB continues this practice and if it has stopped does anyone know what year. TIA

I think all cars of that vintage have VIN stickers on the major removeable panels. My 91 300SE has them all over the place so I expect a 95 should.
A quick check would be to look for stickers on any other 95 124 for sale. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

My '85 has the vin plate on the driver's A pillar, on the ID plates on the door sill and radiator bracket and is also stamped into the engine bay wall on the passenger side. There's probably a few more spots, but I haven't come across them yet!

FWIW,
I was hoping to hear from a late year '94 '95 W124 owner regarding this issue. Since I didn't and since I haven't been able to locate another '94/'95 to inspect I called 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES and asked. They stated that the W124 was the last chasis to have these stickers on the body panels and this practice has STOPPED as of 1996 with the W210 chasis (unfortunate for us used vehicle shoppers). I did not ask if there was some other method in place for 1996 and on. I only buy used cars and I feel these VIN stickers are the only way to guarantee an accident/damage free car. Carfax is not worth the money and will not guarantee the above. Reason, I was looking at a '95 E320 Wagon which Carfax stated was a one owner accident free true mileage car. Upon inspection, I could only find one VIN sticker (tailgate) which had been obviously painted around. There we no others on the car. They kept the one on the tailgate because you will see it when putting the license plate on the car. Someone had gone to great lengths to remove all evidence of the rest of them... Of course when buying used the addage 'let the buyer be aware' goes without saying. Just watch out and don't completely trust a Carfax report.

I don't know why Mercedes stopped putting VIN stickers on. All the new Hondas still have them.
