Where can I get an alignment
Can I bring my 94 C280 to any alignment shop like Midas for an alignment? I was told by a shop that it might need a specail tool from MB to align it.Is that true?

Yes, some cars do need special tools. They usually have them whenever I go. Altho I wouldn't suggest Midas, they do the job, but thats it... If you want a good job, go to an actual Tire store, they tend to have better equipment and more knolagable staff.

If you don't have a shop that you absolutely know and trust, then I'd consider the dealer. (and I am no fan of dealers)
If you get these cars alligned properly, they stay alligned -- for years. If they're not done right, then you could be looking at premature wear on tires, suspension and steering components -- and then, another allignment. So the extra $40 you spend at the dealer is probably money well spent. (Again, only if you don't have an independent shop that you trust.) Just my 2-cents. (Arguably worth that.) Jeff Pierce

allignment
Just a quick note.
Just had my car alligned and was told that front springs and struts were junk and allignment could not be performed successfully until they were replaced. Posted some on this and found out that what I was told may have in fact been the case. Anyway, I have new strutts and springs and allignment. Joel |

Joel,
where did you take your car for the alignment?

It is true that a properly aligned MB will stay aligned for years. My 12 year old 300E has never been touched. My wife's '84 190D arrived with the front end out of alignment. The dealer said his alignment guy was on vacation and I should take it to a shop he recommended. I did that but that didn't fix the problem. When the dealer's alignment guy came back, they aligned it and it stayed that way until I sold the car 17 years later.
Take it to a dealer and have it done right the first time. You should only have to do it once. It's a case of pay me now or pay me later with MB alignments. |

I agree with Bud. Pay a little extra the first time and its cheaper than doing it twice.
