Freon leak please help
83 240d with no climate control has leak at the evaporator. The evaporator housing number seems to be required to find the exact evaporator. Not even the dealer can tell me where to find this illusive number. I have had all accessible panels off, radio out, ducts off and no number to be found. One parts place here in Charlotte tells me that it an aftermarket system but it sure does not look like one to me. Fastlane has both parts but needs this number.

If this is indeed an aftermarket system it means that this is a Euro car because ALL US equipped 123's had air.
I have two euros with air and they are both aftermarket. They both do indeed look factory. Sorry I can't help any further. You might try taking some digital pictures and sending them to www.ackits.com, or go to their website and leave a message. These guys are really good. Good luck, |

Here is what I learned:
The housing number is located on a sticker near the expansion valve, mine had fallen off so I had to take an educated guess. Block off a few days for this project, unless you are a pro. The CD is a MUST. Do NOT drink beer until the project is complete. My evaporator is renewed without a screw left over, though a few plastic fasteners did disintegrated and had to be eliminated. Here is a jpg at the apex. |
