I know this is a small item but it has annoyed me since I purchased my car last March.
One of the lamps won't burn. I have checked the lamp contacts and there is only 12 v on one. At the tail light assembly same thing. Same for the connect to the tail light. Any tips? |

There should be 12v at one side and ground at the other. If one of the powers is missing, I'd look at the bulb monitoring unit and see if it is defective. (All of the power goes through there.)

Can the monitoring unit be tested?

Chris,
I had a very similar problem with the passenger side license plate lamp on my 300SDL. The problem turned out to be a slight amount of corrosion on the connectors located in the driver side tail lamp assembly. From inside the trunk, just remove the tail lamp cover as if you were going to change a bulb, disconnect the connectors and clean them out with a small brass brush. Make sure no brush bristles get left behind. |
