euro headlights 4 dummies....
1 Attachment(s)
Here we go. After nearly a year lusting after eurolights and clear corners for my benz I finally did it. I asked many, many questions along the way. Thank you all for your input. What follows is a few pictures of my installation. I hope it helps someone. If anyone has any questions I will gladly take more pictures and walk you through it.
The first picture is the old harness which I unplugged from the back of my lights. It is shown with the cover off next to the new harness. |

This is the pins installed in the new 6-pin harness.

That new harness just simply plugs into the new lights. Actual installation of the lights is very straightforward. Three bolts each side.
The old look........ |

If anyone has any questions whatsoever either post them here or e-mail me and I will take more pics. vwbuge@charter.net FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

That looks sweet man!
Check out those silver'd out orange blinkers from powerbulbs.com I like it orange though but that's just me. I really like the diamond blue color on the body. If I was you, I'd source some Euro bumpers or later style bumpers and paint them the darker shade of blue (factory color to complement the diamond blue body color) That'd look really sharp! Are you going to do the rims too? I really like 17" AMG monoblocks or 16" 8-holes on W126's... |
I'm waiting until I get some tint for final pictures. I did just put on new wheels. I went with 16" wheels from a 2002 CLK. They are a tremendous upgrade from the stock 14".
|
vwbuge
WOW!!!! they look GREAT!! you took about 10 years off your car. if you ever change bumpers, get a w126c [coupe] front bumper. they have the fog lights in the bumper. i've seen this done and it looks good. also check out member 'mattman's' w126 rhd australian spec. it's very nice. amg monblocks lowered peter |
Very nice, vwbuge. If your headlights have city light bulbs, a jumper wire from each corner light to headlight Pin #3 should power them up.
|
Looks great, vwbuge. My 89 300SE has slightly different headlights. Is the conversion the same process?
|
Conversion is the same.
|
That's a very tidy looking W126. I imagine that those CLK wheels really suit the look.
Have you looked at rear clear lenses? What about painting the grill? Matt. |
You left the best part of job out though  Installing the aim for the lights ;)
Looks very nice congrats |
Aiming was pretty straightforward also. Just a matter of judgement. I looked at the clear taillights and didn't care for the look. I will have to fool around with paint shop to see if I like the grille painted blue. I can't wait to throw on a light coat of tint and take some final pictures. I will post B4 and after.
|
I think Benzman was refering to the headlight adjuster that euro cars have. A vacuum switch allows the reflector to be aimed lower when the car has weight in the rear.

Vwbuge,
Thanks for posting these pics. It made my install a breeze last night and left me much more time to enjoy the new look! For the sake of posterity I'll list the part numbers below so they will be in this thread. qty (2) - 006 545 80 28 - six-pin electrical connector, socket - $2.40 each qty (2) - 009 545 30 28 - six-pin electrical connector, cover - $3.00 each qty (2) - 003 545 26 26 - pin, connector (female pin sockets for city lights) - $2.80 each qty (2) - H4 bulbs (I used Osram) Thanks!! |
vwbugge... thanks for sharing the picture of where which wire goes to which hole. That made my job so easy. Took me under a minute to open the old socket and put the new one in.:D
It took me an hour and a half to do both headlights. Thats uninstalling the old ones and putting the new ones in. I was lucky enough to find a seller who sold me 2 new bosch headlights for roughly around $200 after exchange rate. I couldn't wait to put them on once both arrived. I put them on and then realized I had no bulbs! So right after putting them on, I went to Autozone and went looking for silverstar headlights. I heard about them on commercials and from users here as well. I asked for H4's and they didnt have any. So I saw this "ricer" type bulb that said H4/9003. I figured if its either H4/9003, then perhaps a 9003 silverstar would work. I found the last 2 9003's for about $19 each. Bought them and installed them. I am waiting for it to get dark so I can level the lights and test out my new headlights:cool: BTW... I took some pictures on a 35mm camera. I will post them once I get them developed and scanned. |
yo columbus
SWWEEEETT how do you like seeing at night???? that was an awesome deal, you'll be glad you have oem bosch. now on to aiming them... where are in in columbus? i may be rolling thru your town on sunday peter |
Beautiful picture of your 420 SEL, Tim!
|
Peter... I'm in northwestern Columbus in a town called Upper Arlington. Its a small upscale town... nothing in here at all.
Wanna know anything else, drop me a PM. take care *enjoying my new road vision*:D |
niceee

i am gonna install my euros soon with philps and also 18 in monoblocks come tmrw! what size are yours? any other mods? |
Why did the 80's and early 90's USA mercedes come with ugly headlights in the first place?

go to the dan stern website and do some browsing. like i heard one person say "he sure knows his way around a light bulb" with my u.s. lights, i truly felt like i was driving at night with DARK,DARK SUNGLASSES ON!! hard to see squat. it still amazes me people have 400watt sound systems, $3000.00 wheels and tires, etc etc, BUT refuse to get euro lights because they cost TOO much. well i just hope & pray none of their BLIND arses hit me. will anyone second this opinion? peter |
I'll second the opinion.
I've done a lot of upgrades, and the OEM Bosch Euro headlight upgrade has to be the one I appreciate the most. |
Yes, the euro headlamps may be very good and all that but how in the world do you align the darn things? Some say that the driver side fits fine with the stock wiper system but for some reason mine is stuck way up high and the passenger side is awaiting the fabrication of a metal piece so I can get that one a bit higher. So at the moment drivers side is too high and the passenger side too low.

i read this too fast initially. align or aim? http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/aim/aim.htm personally i would not use the u.s. wipers, because the don't wipe enough area and it's a huge pain to set them up where they really weren't meant to be and just don't look right. MY opinion. some people have done this and seem happy. do a 'search' here of the archives. the procedure is wriiten about. i recently converted to the euro wiper set up from a '94 w124 car.it looks nice and gets about everything. aligning these lights perfectly, to me is a pain. i usually use some kind of shim to bring them up high enough. for me the driverside is the hardest. peter |
6 pin adaptor
How Do I get one of those 6 Pin adaptors? I have just purchased a Euro upgrade but no adaptor or instructions.
Stephen |
6-pin holders are at the dealership.. about 1.50 each
|
Your MB dealer should have them, and they are very cheap. Some owners have found that the rear tail light connector is the same six pin plastic housing for the pins as for the euro headlights.
|
Suginami; could you post a picture of your 300E with euro lights? I would like to change them on mine. Thanks.
|
I'm afraid I haven't taken a picture of the car since I've installed the Euro's.
I just ordered a digital camera today (Canon S45) on the internet, and will post a picture as soon as I receive it. |

I'd like to do the same for my 300SD 1984 but euro lights are pretty expensive aren't they? I hate to spend so much money on my older car.
Where's the best source to get them? My other 300SD came with them when bought and I think they look awesome? |
importvision.com

looks very nice. thanks for the pics.

lowest price, [some/slight sacrifice in quality]?** best price [for good/better quality]? www.adsitco.com can trade in old lights, they also have used euros. www.puma-access.com call for pricing-paul ebay has used w126 euros fairly regularly. you can watch the classified section here also a few places to start **if you deal with importvision be prepared to buy all your instructions, wiring, and bulbs seperate. there are alot of things to consider before a deal is really good. |
nice vehicle ebennz!! where did you get the euro wipers?
|

i pieced them together over a period of time. the motors were from parts shop, arms and other things from caliber motors 800.252.6877 mb wholsale parts. there are a few more pix of car and my explorer @ http://ftw.truckmoxie.com/mygallery.asp?id=4818 peter |
I just received the Depo's for the SDL. They have a built in vacuum height adjustment. Has anyone utilized this feature on these headlights? What additional hardware (regulator of some sort) is required and where can it be obtained?
|
Omegabenz was selling the parts necessary for the headlight vacum adjustment: the hoses, panel, etc.
Try doing a search or PM'ing him. |
Thanks Sug. I'll do it.
|
question for all you e-coders.....do you construct new harness' with relays such that you can run high wattage bulbs....thats my plan unless I opt for HID. It seems to me that most people just change the headlights and still use 55/60 H4 bulbs.---as opposed to 80/100, or 90/130's.

http://ftw.truckmoxie.com/showownerpic.ten-u-4818-n-442097-pos-1-album-9730 i have these. they are ceramic and the toughest sockets i have ever come across. if the space shuttle had h4's these are what nasa would use. i have a couple of extra pairs, send me a pm if interested. peter |

Euro Bosch headlight for 92 300E
Well I am definitely a dummy when it comes to putting these lights in .I have had them for more than 3 years with all the bulbs and new lock caps and a peice to stick into the washer bottle to keep it for leaking.
I want to take the wipers off and put the 260-E plane panels below. I could certainly use you help PM at krwaxb@yahoo.com I will give you my phone number. at your convenience so I can try this over the phone I will except a collect call. Sincerely Bob Geco |
190E
I emailed importvision.com regarding installing in my 190E, I was told that their euro sets including corner lights ($205) are virtually plug and play-no need for anything else. Also, on Ebay there are Bi- xenon complete with corner lights for $389. They too require no other electrical plug, pins, whatever. Just plug and play. Can this really be true? anybody know?
|
the depos i used were pretty much plug n play. i did however use the original corner socket in the new corners, it was a tight fit to get it to twist it but it made it. my dot setup had a 3 prong corner bulb sockets, the depo ones were a 2 prong n didnt plug in.
back to my question, anyone know if i buy euro washer brackets if it will fit the bottom of the lights housing to fasten them, i was able to modfify the dot washer brackets on the drivers side but not the passenger side whick jumps a bit from the enging vibrations? |
