The 1997- cars have the 722.6 five speed. I'm pretty sure the 95-96 cars have the 722.4 four speed.

The 1995-96 trans is a 722.3 & uses Dexron fluid.
The 1997 & later trans are 722.6 & require special MB synthetic fluid. AMG doesn't modify the transmission BUT does remap the trans control unit on the 1997 & later cars. Service on the 1995-96 is 30K miles. MB says the 1997 & later cars DO not require service(HA-HA).

I just had the local MB dealer service my C43 transmission at 60,000 miles: $130 (labor, filter and pan gasket) plus $70 for transmission fluid for a total of $200.
I would view the sealed "do not service" transmission like the 10,000 mile FSS oil changes.
