W210 ignition lock cylinder removal help needed
I searched to no avail... I have read all about the older cars but the W210 lock cylinder must be diffferent than the rest..
I have removed the trim ring, now I have a loose fitting lock cylinder with a black cylindrical cover on it with no visible means of removal. How do I proceed to remove this cover to access the two holes I've read about to get the release tool ( coat hanger) into the lock? (my key is hanging up in the lock). TIA, -Tom

If it is like the 1995 the ring should "unscrew" after you release the latch. The key has to be in the #2 position for it to turn with the latches are released. Oh yea, I don't think you will ever do it with a coat hanger - too big in diameter. Use a good sized paper clip.

I can't get AT the ring, there is a cover that looks like a 35m film can with a 1/2" hole in the bottom that covers the lock cyl, the key goes thru the hole. It is DIFFERENT from your'n!

The W210 1996 thru 1997 requires a special tool to remove the ring. That is the same tool that is needed for the C-class W202.
The part number is 202-589-00-14 & is $100. You must push the black ring IN & turn counter-clockwise 1/4 turn with the key in position 1.
