W210/E Class Clicking/Creaking Seat Frames - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Just a little message to those W210 owners who have experienced the "clicking and creaking" front seat frame syndrome.

After having the dealer look at it a couple times over the last year, and having been told "they couldn't find anything," I went back in today armed with the info I received from Jim Smith and others about their own experiences with the problem from this website.

The car went in this a.m., and came out this afternoon free of the clicking and creaking! Service manager said they replaced the seat frame. I have tried and I can no longer get the seat to click, so hopefully this will be the end of the problem.

The part replaced was a : 1 210-910-41-36

The part name says "seat adjuste" however it looks like the whole seat frame was replaced. The old one had a glossy black paint finish on it while this one has a decidedly matte/semi-gloss finish to it.

Hope this is helpful to those out there who have been annoyed by this same problem. I'll post info if the noise returns at a later date. Good luck, y'all!

Your dealer should have received a bulletin on that problem 5-6 years ago, the original seat frame could have been fixed in less than an hour!!

The first couple of visits the dealer denied that they had ever heard of the problem-(back in Dec '99 and again probably in Oct 2000.) Yesterday was the first time I mentioned that I'd found many others (on this website) who had the identical problem as mine. The service rep was eager to find out what web site I had found others who had this problem. It was interesting- (and now somewhat annoying) to see after disclosing this info how quickly the problem was solved- especially knowing that there was a bulletin on this 5+ years ago.

When I had my seat frame replaced I requested to keep the old one.
Is there any way to actually repair or improve the defective one so that next time this happens, the frames can be switched. I understand these frames fail every 2-3 years.

My replacement seat is clicking again - after 2 years.
Any way to fix the play in the seat? Has anyone tried that? - short of replacing the entire seat frame $$$

M.B.DOC. Interesting that there is a bulletin. My dealer replaced my driver's seat frame twice between '99 and 2001 and my passenger seat frame once in 2001 (as opposed to fixing them). They did not seem aware of a fix. Many of us would like to know what the bulletin said the fix is, so we can file it away for reference.

Until just recently MB suggested a minor repair for the "clicking" seat frames on the W210 chassis. Now they reccommend only replacement of the complete seat frame assembly$$$$$$.
MB part number 210-910-41-36 for the drivers side
MB number 210-910-42-36 on the passenger side.

M.B.Doc I'm still interested in the details of the original minor repair if you have them, my car is out of warranty and I’m trying to avoid having to buy new seats!

Hello MB DOC, like many of us out of warranty, do you recall how to repair this instead of replacement ???

Yes, I do have that info. MB designed special bolts(with o-rings) to connect the pivoting part of the seat frame at the front to elminate the "movement" & noises.

With-out those "special" bolts you can't fix that problem!

MBDOC, it appears that I am close to isolating the source of the noise. It seems to be from the rear seats on my W163. Any hints what might be causing this?

I sure would be more helpful if we knew 1) where to buy these bolts, 2) what the part number is . . .

Or, if you would just sell them directly to us.
