Hi all,
I picked up a 91 190e 2.6 with 128K about a month and a half ago. The car was very well maintained and that will continue with me. I've never owned an MB before, but so far I love it. Just curious, what can I expect in terms of average engine and tranny life (in mileage) for this model? I'm going to change the oil every 2500 miles, and tranny fluid every 15-20K. Thanks, Rick |

Rick,
I have an 86' 300E, a bit bigger engine but still the same 6 cylinder, milage is about 240.00k and as far as i know it is still the original engine and transmission (I am not the original owner), engine burns about 2 quarts of oil per 3000 miles, transmision is fine. I change the oil every 3000 miles and the transmission oil and filter yearly. Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. I live in Toronto, the winter is painfully cold the summer is hot. Car runs just fine. Power is down because of worn engine buit it starts every morning and runs just fine. Engine overhaul is not scheduled just jet. I think you got some time to go before any major trouble. My friend drives an 88' 300E with more miles then mine and his car is fine as well. Good luck. Alex |

Rickh-5,
The maximum mileage you will get from your car is an unknown. But if you're going to change your oil and filter as often as you say, I'll bet this car has a pleasant surprise in store for you over the next few years. Frequent oil changes and TLC will make it go almost forever. Change oil hot, and change oil often, ------------------ Larry Bible '84 Euro 240D, 516K miles '88 300E 5 Speed Over 800,000 miles in Mercedes automobiles |
