190e Dealer Can't get part for euro light

Hello,

I just ordered a set of Euro lights on monday. When I tried to call the dealer for the conversion plug (4 prong to 5 prong), the parts guy told me they dont have it and couldnt get it because mercedes wont ship them to the U.S. since it is a European part!

Is this accurate? If so what should I do now?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I am new at this mercedes thing!

depending on where you ordered them from... alot of people like Bekkers or Performance Products just go ahead and include the new headlight pigtail

I sold a guy a set of euro lights and he didn't know how to install them and I gave him the instructions. I said he would have to buy the 6 hold female end connectors and he was able to get them from his MB dealer and he lives in NY. So if he can get them, I guarantee you can get them. I'd say your dealer doesn't know what they are talking about or are full of s*** or both. Also, how many people over here do euro light conversions? A ton! So if they can get them, you should be able to also! Either prod your dealer a little or find another one.

I have now contacted 3 MB dealers 2 in NH and 1 in MA. They all tell me they dont have or cant get part. One said they have part # 011 545 50 28. But it is just a housing not adapter with any pins on it. I could be wrong but it is my understanding that:

My headlight adapter on 190e is 4 female plug from the vehicle. The new euro light will have 5 or 6 male plugs on its adapter. So I need an adapter which has 4 male plugs to go into my existing cars female harness, and 5 or 6 female plugs on the other side to accomodate the new headlight assembly male plugs. Please correct me if I am wrong. If this is correct I cant seem to find one here locally. Am I missing something???

It's not an adapter, it's a 6 pin connector. You must take apart the 4 pin connector and place the prongs in the 6 pin connector.

all you need is the 6 pin holder and two pins. You remove the 4 wires with the female pins and put them (in different order) into the new 6 pin holder. You need the extra two pins so that you can wire the City Light to your side markers (socket no. 3).

- Connect old pin 2 (brown wire) goes into new pin socket 2
- Connect old pin 1 (green wire) goes into new pin socket 6
- Connect old pin3 (yellow wire) goes into new pin socket 5
- Connect old pin 4 (white wire) goes into new pin socket 4

I believe these are the part numbers

qty (2) - 006 545 80 28 - six-pin electrical connector, socket
qty (2) - 009 545 30 28 - six-pin electrical connector, cover
qty (2) - 003 545 26 26 - pin, connector

BTW, I got all the parts from the MB dealer in Honolulu, so it's available from MBUSA for $20

Have the parts guys look up the connector for the rear lights. I think it's the six pin, and that's the one you want. Been there, done that, but it was 15 years ago.

I recall that the connectors came as a kit that included the housing, cover, and pins (terminals), but if you can buy the parts separately, you only need the housing and cover. Then you swap the terminals from the four terminal housing to the six terminal housing. Also, I swapped the Euro side light assemblies for my orignal US side light assemblies, so I ended up with the Euro headlamp/fogs and US side light (amber lens) assemblies. The Euro side lights have a differnet lighting/wiring configuration as I recall.

After figuring out which terminal and pin were what circuit for both the US and Euro assemblies, I drew a brief wiring schematic and stashed it in the box with the original lamps, so I have a guide if I ever swap the US lamps back in.

BTW, if you're wiring the side marker to the City Light, the jumper wire is from prong 6 on the euro headlight adapter to side marker wiring harness. On the W201, there are 3 wires going into the 4 pin connector. Open the side marker wiring harnes and the wire that you want to tap into is the one that is all by itself on one side of the harness. Then, when you have your "driving lights" on, the City Light in the main beam will be illuminated.
