Tomparsi,

Lucky you to have it repaired under warranty. Is this the original new car warranty or Starmark warranty? Do you live in CA?

I checked with my dealer and they said the MAS flow sensor is not covered under the emissions warranty. My E320 is a '98 with 66K miles.

Just so happens that there is a "new" AMM for your car on ebay. I just bid on it: item# 2426040306

I usually stock it and my supplier is out so I bid, and am high bidder but it hasn't met the reserve.

BTW, in fixing hundreds of check engine lights I have yet to have a fix with a gas cap.

I can't remember what I usually pay but the buy it now price is probably below it (not much). I bid so that I can be notified of progress.

I have bought a number of interesting items recently on ebay. I bought a ML320 transfer case for $200. My intention is to change the power distribution ratio to the later 48/52 split that removes the studder when accelerating in a corner. My wifes 98 that we bought new and has 36k on it has always done the shudder though less than most. when I get done experimenting I may sell exchange modified units on ebay.

Yes , I saw the tranny u got..[ and your excell feedback]
I have to say to the group. that I have done several ebay DEALS and like anything, you have to be a shopper and check the guy out, but I have had nothing but good experience..

Ebay also has become so big that it is starting to become a barometer for used $$$ value...

Sure does make for an easy storefront ....

I had your bid figured for 85.01 , figuring $15 added for the s/h.,
making a fair price of $100 even and a penny for the bump insurance..
... pretty close...

Anyone hear of Mercedes recommending changing the air filter when replacing the Mass Flow Sensor?

After several months of intermittent "Check Engine Electronics" messages, I had my service tech look at it. He confirmed the same fault codes as provided earlier by Autozone (see early post this thread for the fault codes). He also said this definately meant the Mass Air Sensor was bad.

So I finally bought a new sensor at my dealer, less 10% discount for being a MBCA member. The final cost including tax was $290. I installed it myself and it really took only about 5 minutes. This is a very simple installation for anyone to perform. I then took the car to Autozone and had the codes reset.

The engine seems to run a bit more smootly at idle and coming to a stop. I'll post again on this thread if this didn't cure the dreaded Check Engine Electronics message.

For those of you that don't know what a Mass Air Sensor looks like, I've attached a picture of my original sensor.

98 e320 air mass flow meter

I got it replaced at a local MB dealer. They charged me $ 238 for labor. Isn't it steep for 5-10 minutes or max one hour work?

Wow, $238 just for labor! What was your total bill? It really does just take 5-10 minutes at the very most to replace the sensor.
