Question 1998 E320 Engine Damage

I am new to this board and have been reading a lot about oil change intervals and FSS. I have a 1998 E320 with 60k miles and been changing oil according to FSS every 10,000 to 11,000 miles always with dino oil. Until last year the car was under warranty and I had the oil changed at MB dealership. I remember 2.5 years ago when my car was at the dealer for service my service advisor called to ask if I had a preference for dino or synthetic oil. I decided to stay with dino since this was what I used before. The service advisor never mentioned anything about the benefit of using synthetic oil. However, I did noticed that my FSS was set to 10,000 miles

Now, does this mean my engine is already damaged? If so, what are the symptoms and how can I know the extend of damage. Also, how can I find out if the extended 150K engine warranty applies to me.

S.

FSS service using conventional oil developed problems for many engines (dealerships were not being compensated by MBUSA for the synthetic oil and some dealerships used conventional API SH or SI oil instead of the manual-recommended synthetic oil), some owners took MBUSA to court.

Cars running on conventional oil that went without service for 10,000-20,000-mile intervals developed sludge and other severe engine problems.

If you own a MB assembled between January 1998 and April 2001 you should receive a letter from MBUSA.

These vehicles with FSS will be covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles for any oil-related engine problems.

Is Jan 98 the cutoff daste? My 98 E300 was manufactured in late 97. Maybe that is the reason I have yet to receive a letter from MB.

What about guys like me who bought a used '99 E320 and fit the FSS profile? Do we contact a local MB dealer and MB headquarters?

From what I have been told, you have to be the original owner to
get the benifits. Contact MBUSA anyways to check out the rules.
