That's a fan?
There is a small black box located on my passenger side where glove box would be if I didn't have Air bag that commects to a tube that supplies air to the CAN box. You think maybe I didn't connect it back properly??

I'm ignorant of the later iterations of the 124. Are you saying that you think the temp sensor is in the control box you mention? If it does not draw smoke at the grill intake, this certainly sounds like something worth checking.
Good luck, |

No, you were saying something about a fan. I said that I think there is a "fan" or some kind of black boxy looking apparatus that is connnected via a hose through the firewall to the CAN cox. The temp sensor is in the roof as you describe. I have removed the headliner and am familiar with the parts of the roof assy. I just went out and turned the ignition on(did not start the car). The lazy blower is evident even now. Maybe I didn't connect something or perhaps its the Blower Motor Relay. The motor even sort of oscillates(+- a few 10's RPM) under power.
(Edited Jan 05 - I don't remember what happened over time but the problem went away. So now things work as they were designed to) Last edited by aldedmon; 01-08-2005 at 01:33 PM. |

My evaporator finally gave way at 18 years of service.
Also, we must have done the R134a conversion correctly (EVERYTHING NEW including dual fans) because she blows nice and cold in JAX, FL. Any opinions on the ACM or Meistersatz evaporators ? TIA, :-) neil Last edited by ke6dcj; 06-26-2008 at 11:02 AM. |

I was re-reading some evaporator threads, and it seems like if you could find an evaporator with all-copper tubes (fins will be aluminum), then that's even better, as it is supposedly more resistant to corrosion from the inside. However, most units are a poor fit.
Supposedly the new OE BEHR uses all copper tubes, unlike the original one with copper tubes but an aluminum manifold. Moreover, the parts section of Mercedesshop, now carries a Proliance/Modine-brand of evaporator with all-copper tubes including manifold (fins are aluminum) at half the cost of the ACM which uses ONLY aluminum (no copper anywhere). Is the Modine a good fit ? So, is it better to get an all copper tubing & manifold evaporator, esp. if BEHR, or is the all aluminum one (ACM and Meisterstatz) OK ? Thanks, :-) neil Below is the W124 Proliance/Modine all copper. Last edited by ke6dcj; 06-26-2008 at 08:49 AM. |

Attached is the factory shipped W124 evaporator with aluminum tubing but copper manifold.
The evaporator in my 1988 300TE was the same, and leaked in the joint between the aluminum and copper (different expansion rates). :-) neil Last edited by ke6dcj; 06-25-2008 at 05:36 PM. |

Attached is the ACM brand.
Note: all aluminum tubing and manifold (fins are always aluminum). :-) neil PS: anyone got a picture of the current BEHR ? Last edited by ke6dcj; 06-26-2008 at 08:53 AM. |
