Will leaking seals on the fuel union screw that secures the main filter cause greyish-blue smoke (from the exhaust)? The engine stalls under load. Thanks for all replies to such a simple question.

Yes it will. Any fuel leak on the pressure side will cause air in the system and big problems. Have it fixed soon!!!

There is a modified fuel filter housing available for the 617 diesel engine, and I'm pretty sure it should be available for your 616 engine as well. There is also a modified bolt that you'll need as well. Rather than a seal at the top, it just uses two o-rings similar to the 603 diesel's filter bolt. If this isn't an option right now, you can go up to your local auto parts store and buy a little bottle of Permatex sealer. It comes in a white bottle and the sealer is brown. Put a little bit near the top of the bolt before you screw it back in (not too tightly!) and that should stop the leaking. That was out old trick at the dealer before the modified housing came out. Hope this helps! ------------------ Rgds, Aaron Greenberg MB technician Precision Motorcars, Cincinnati, Ohio '67 250SE Cabriolet '77 450SL '80 300SD '85 380SE '89 420SEL '93 300E 2.8 '74 Jensen Interceptor Mk.III '85 BMW 745i Turbo '81 DeLorean DMC12 |
