turn signal problem after steering box R&R

Hi there,
Thanks for all of the help you guys have been giving me!
'85 Euro 16 valve. New question: I had the steering box overhauled, and when it was put back in, the steering wheel was off center by about 20 degrees. Also, the turn signal wouldn't turn off after a left turn unless I steered about 3 degrees past center. A friend diagnosed the problem as the pittman arm being off by one notch. I took it back to the mechanic, and I presumed that he shifted the pittman, since now the steering wheel is straight across. BUT - the turn signal still doesn't turn off correctly after a left turn. I still have to steer about 3 degrees past center to get it to turn off. What do you think is going on? Thanks a lot. Randy

I think a shortcut was taken. Instead of repositioning the pitman arm, the steering wheel was pulled and straightened. Looks fine, but indicator function stays screwed.

I would also compare the full-lock left and right. Are they equal?

I believe that if the pitman arm is off then you would not get even full steering L&R.

Another short-cut is to adjust the tie rods ... still not what you want.

Easy to tell how it was fixed. Pull the key out and turn the steering wheel til it locks. It would lock in the straight ahead position if it were on correctly.

There is a center locating arrangment on the box. One pulls the screw plug and screws in a pointed screw that fixes the box in its center position. By mounting the box in its centered position with the steering wheel locked all the rest of straight ahead is done with alignment.

There is only one right position of the pitman arm and there are markings to designate that position.
