The pump has been slinging fluid out from the pulley shaft seal for awhile now. What is involved in removing the pulley and changing the seal? Can a shadetree engineer perform this repair?

Bill, thanx for the assistance. I still have to pose the question as to whether I can remove the pulley and replace the seal(s). My unit has no wobble and at this point is only leaking. I would like to replace the seals if possible before everything goes awry. Can it be done?

Crosbo,

I hate to discourage you, but I have seen the seals replaced in two pumps, I did not do them, but I know of them.

In both cases, the seals did not hold. These pumps are normally durable. You may be better off putting on a used pump. I put on a used pump some time back and has not leaked.

Good Luck,

Well we have replaced hundreds of front pump seals I don't think I have ever had one come back. It is a truely simple job... IF you have the tool to pull the pulley. It has to be pulled from the hub not the diameter.

The pump shaft needs to be tight in the front bushing and not have too much end-play; probably an experience related measurement, but we have only thrown away a few pumps over the years even with plenty of used ones available.
