M103 thermostat housing explodes...
My Dad was in Calgary today driving the 'ol 1990 190E 2.6. The temp sudeenly shot up, so he headed for the off-ramp. Just as he got off the freeway, the car started steaming.
The thermostat housing (the metal part) had blown to bits! Fortunately, he got it fixed this afternoon and got home safely. I was surprised that the dealer had the right part in stock. Anyone else have this happen? Seems kinda freaky to me! If this happens with age, folks might want to replace that housing as a high mileage item...

Are you sure it was aluminum? Some cars came with plastic thermostat housings. Not that plastic should disintegrate.

That's what I wondered too, and I haven't seen it, but Dad is pretty sure it was metal.
