Gauges go crazy when lights come on 240D

Once in a while, for a while, when I put my 83 240D into reverse, and the lights were on, the Dashboard guages would flicker crazily. Now it happens every time when I turn my lights on. I hear something clicking, but that could just be the turn signal relay going crazy too. Where do I start to look? respectfully, RTC
