Volumetric efficiency is what we are going for with improved air filters.

The engine is sucking for air. Lessen the restriction on that suck, and more air /fuel volume gets sucked in. (i.e., the engine becomes more efficient)

That's all there is to it. If the guy is offering something with less restriction on the suck, the volumetric efficiency goes up.

Naturally, you also want filtration to be good too. These properties tend to be mutually exclusive, so at least equal filtration should be the primary concern, since most anything is usually better, performance wise, than the stock intake on most cars.

Question: Also, would an intercooler help the car run cooler even if I dont have a turbo on it?

"Air into the intake snorkel", and "Intercooler" both seem like references to engine combustion air intake, as opposed to engine cooling. Engine cooling is off-subject from the thread; the issues appear to have become confused.

A intercooler is intended to cool, and make more dense, the air/fuel charge. A denser charge further improves the volumetric efficacy of the engine, netting better engine power.

Greater engine power output will tend to increase thermal loads to your cooling system, but that really is another thread.

If the fan works, you need to check aux fan fuse in fuse box, and test aux fan temperature switch/air con high pressure switch.

Sequentially, of course...

I'll guide you thru' as best I can.
