w210 with 606 shut off noise

When I turn the ignition from the second position (driving position) to off I hear a series of fast clicks. I would say 3 to 5 of them. At first I thought my diesel was dieseling as a gas engine would. That is what it sounds like.

I then thought maybe it was bearings in the aux fans or blower motor - but I still hear this when car is cold, everything is off and all I am doing is moving the key from position 2 to off - wothout even starting the car.

Does anyone know what is activated in this position? I know the radio works, the cc starts to blow etc..

Any thoughts?
