Torque convertor drain on 450SE W3A 040
OK, I got the "drain the pan through the dipstick tube" part down, then "drop the pan & replace the filter & gasket.."
My Chiltons shows the convertor drain plug as a bolt on the bottom of the transmission, centered on a grid-like casting. Am I supposed to just loosen (remove) this bolt and drain what comes out or is there more to it? Is this really just access to the actual convertor drain bolt? If so, how do you get it to line up? This will be my 1st tranny service and I want to do it right. New fluid, new washers, new filter, new gasket, not too tight, right? Which transmission filter kit do I use? The 3/4", the "no tube" or the 1" tube kit? Thanks, again!

Torque converter drain will be behind the cover plate on the front of the transmission housing. Two screw hold it on, I think (I've not looked at mine, may be just a snap-in plate or grid). The two grids are cooling vents in the housing.
You can use a large screwdriver, probably, to pry the flywheel around using the ring grear, or put a 27mm socket on the crank pulley bolt and use a ratchet. Peter

27MM socket!!!!!
Oh, yeah! Sure to have one of those babies in my tool box! What is the bolt on the bottom, then?
So there is a PLATE on the front of the transmission to remove, too? I guess when I bought the 14MM hex key for the oil drain plug I should have kept on buying! Well, at least I can use it for the rear end plugs... Thanks psfred!

Should be a cover plate on the bottom of the bell housing, two small bolts (probably 10 mm). Plate is slotted for air movement.
This will give you access to the flywheel gear and the drain plug. Peter
