Custom Fit Plug Wires

My apologies in advance as this is not, in this instance, an MB question but could perhaps apply to any car.

I am about to replace plug wires on my toy - 1967 Dodge Monaco - and the only set available has the plug end boots attached but requires that I cut them to length and mount the distributor end boot. Does anyone have experience with this operation and suggestions on how to go about it for the best results?

Other than testing for continuity, is there any electrical test that I could do (a range of resistance values, perhaps?) once I have the wires together to be sure of a good connection?

Thanks
jlc
